Turkey day in Cola: A Gamecock's guide to Thanksgiving break
By Cam Adams, firstname.lastname@example.org
Not all of us will be heading out of town for our last break before the end of the semester. For those students staying in Columbia, here are a few events to spice up the Thanksgiving weekend.
Many restaurants close for Thanksgiving, but there are a few that will be open so you can get your turkey day feed.
California Dreaming, 401 Main St., will be open Thursday (Nov. 25) from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Customers can also pre-order their dinner with curbside pickup.
Lizard's Thicket, with its down-home meat-and-three options, will be open at its 14 locations across the Midlands from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. The closest location to campus is 818 Elmwood Avenue.
You can get an early start on the Christmas holiday with a drive through Saluda Shoals Park and its annual Holiday Lights on the River, starting on Thanksgiving.
The Riverbanks Zoo’s LIghts Before Christmas display kicks off this weekend and is open on select days between now and the end of the year.
Starting Dec. 4, another drive-through display, Carolina Lights, will be at the State Fairgrounds.
Holiday Market + Festival
The Well Co. will hold a holiday market Nov. 28 from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. offering shoppers a chance to shop at locally owned businesses in Columbia. The market will include food trucks, live music and other entertainment.
If you’re looking to give back to the community during the break, there are plenty of organizations around Columbia looking for volunteers.
South Carolina-Clemson football game
The annual Palmetto Bowl returns to Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday (Nov. 27) at 7:30 p.m.
Students can request a ticket to the Clemson game until 3:30 p.m. Monday (Nov. 22). If selected for a ticket, you have until 3:30 p.m. Wednesday (Nov. 24) to claim it. Students can also purchase up to two guest tickets in the upper level for $60 each.
