Most individuals who attempt suicide communicate signs of their intentions in the week prior to their attempt. Learn how to recognize the signs.

Suicide is the second leading cause of death among 18-24 year olds. On college campuses, the warning signs of a suicidal person are often observed by peers, faculty, staff and family members who are often unaware of the signs or do not know how to respond. Learn how to help with our Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Training.

Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Training

  • Teaches you the warning signs of a suicidal person and early signs of depression.
  • Assists you in gaining confidence in how to respond.
  • Educates you about the resources available at the University of South Carolina.

You are not expected to be a mental health professional. This is the why we use the word gatekeeper. You are invaluable to assisting a struggling person in getting the help they need. You serve as a gatekeeper to mental health services.

The University of South Carolina is dedicated to reducing the number of suicides and suicide attempts and to mitigate their impact on our community. We all play an important role in preventing suicide.

Online via Zoom, participants will be emailed the meeting  information before the event starts.
